Nancy Lazarus is a consultant with expertise in writing, reporting and market research. Her diverse industry background spans digital media, publishing, public relations and advertising. Her experience includes consumer products, travel, hospitality, entertainment and design areas. She advises on and conducts research to address marketing, communications and business issues. Her byline has appeared in numerous publications, websites and blogs.
Nancy has been working with various companies, most recently Adweek, where she contributes to Adweek.com's Fishbowl digital section about publishng. She has also written for Adweek Blog Network's PRNewser, FishbowlNY and GalleyCat blogs on PR, social media, magazine and book topics. At Mediabistro she covered media and design trends and events for PRNewser, TVNewser, WebNewser (now Social Pro) and UnBeige blogs. She also designed reader surveys and conducted mobile apps focus groups..
For Peter Greenberg.com she conducted a competitive analysis of international travel tours using secondary research and wrote a domestic and an international travel related article. For Chilmark Digital she performed client service for a consumer iPad survey program used by CBS TV network.For Sobel Media she conducted and analyzed attendee surveys based on monthly media industry events.
Nancy has also written several media, travel and research articles for marketing, travel and entertainment trade publications and websites. Among the media and research topics have been PR case studies, campaigns, social media, book events, sentiment analysis and publicity surveys. Travel topics have included leisure and business travel, hotel and resort service, airlines, tourist boards, restaurants, domestic and international destinations she has visited.
As Research Director at Nielsen Business Media, Nancy oversaw trade and consumer research for entertainment, travel, media, real estate and design groups. Offerings included digital products, magazines, events and trade shows. Key brands were Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter/THR, Back Stage, Adweek, Business Travel News/BTN, Successful Meetings, MeetingNews, Incentive, Photo District New (PDN) and Contract. She designed research used to provide editorial content, improve existing products, create new concepts and help generate sales revenues.
At Northstar Travel Media she managed research for Meetings & Conventions (M & C), Travel Weekly and Travel Age West. There she conducted online surveys to support marketing, editorial and ad sales. She also developed trends studies that were sold on the websites and presented survey findings to worldwide travel, hospitality and tourism clients.
At Ketchum, Nancy supervised consumer research projects for some of the agency’s major public relations clients, such as Nokia, Heinz, Kodak, FedEx, VISA, Avis and Orbitz.com. She conducted surveys that were used for publicity, corporate and brand image assessment, product launches, message testing and opinion polls. She was also involved in research that won industry awards and contributed to new business wins.
At advertising agencies Grey and JWT, she was responsible for developing brand positioning strategies and copy testing research for clients’ products and services. Previously she worked in corporate research, where she focused on product testing and service delivery at American Home Products in the food division, at American Express in the travelers cheque group and at Manufacturers Hanover serving domestic and international banking areas.
Nancy received her B.A. in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University and spent a year of college studying in Geneva, Switzerland. She holds an M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University and an M.S. in Tourism and Travel Management from New York University. She currently resides in New York City.
